John Deere TECH Program: How it Works

Written by Midwest Machinery | Aug 24, 2020 2:56:48 PM

“It isn’t your typical technician training college program.” Says Marv Hoffman, Midwest Machinery Corporate Service Manager, and recruiter of the North Dakota State College Science John Deere Tech Program. Based out of their Wahpeton, ND campus the John Deere Tech program is a 24 month Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S) that is structured around developing technically competent, John Deere service technicians.

Program Overview

All students who enroll in the program must secure a John Deere dealer sponsor who will provide them with employment during and upon completion of their courses. The program is divided into 10 terms, each approximately eight weeks in length. Three terms are at your sponsor dealership and seven terms are on campus in Wahpeton attending classes and gaining hands-on experience on diagnostics and repair procedures using the latest high-tech electronics and software programs.

"I think my favorite class was power train systems. It was fun to spend a whole day disassembling and reassembling them. I think I could retake the class over again with how technology has changed even in 5 years."-Dakotah Revering class of 2015 Alexandria Location

Midwest Machinery’s Sponsor Role

Midwest Machinery currently has 24 technicians who have graduated from the Wahpeton program and currently have 10 others who are either in their 1st or 2nd year. Along with securing a job with Midwest Machinery, students also receive tuition and housing reimbursement. Graduates of the program are able to hit the ground running when they start full-time on not only equipment diagnostics, but also the complex software computer programs that are involved in being a technician.

I looked at other technician programs but I always knew I wanted to work on John Deere equipment. It was nice not having to take other courses I wasn’t interested in, like I would have at other tech programs. Plus having my tuition reimbursed it was a no brainier for me.”-Bryce Nathe class of 2019 Sauk Centre Location.
